The every day missionary

Everyday I walk through the hospital, and I see a huge banner with IU Health's logo. The strength it takes. Everyday I laugh at this, because I think of how helpless we are. Helpless against theft. Pride. Disasters. Test results. Accidents. Job losses. Conflicts. Crushed dreams. Bad Republican candidates. Dogs who hate their crates (ok, that's just me). Today, I had a revelation. A friend said to me, "God put you right where you are to love, support and encourage these people in your life. It's awesome." I don't always think it's s awesome, but I realized that she right. I realized, I need to change my perspective on this strength issue. I don't have the strength it takes. But I'm finding it, one day at a time, one friend at a time, one, Lord now what? at a time. It's amazing to me that not only is God so much bigger than me, but that He chooses to manifest a tiny, tiny portion of that power in using me. I just have to be willing to serve and ...

The gift

I have a friend who mentioned in her blog once her inability to give gifts (http://www.whileyouwerenapping.com/2011/12/some-things-ive-been-thinking-about.html). It's a quite funny and enlightening to someone like me, a gift-giver and someone who speaks that love language. Example? I drew my sister-in-law's name for our gift exchange this year, and she wanted a sweater. The sweater I gave her was almost identical to the one she was wearing that day (the gift receipt was included, just in case). Spot on. She was impressed. [This being said, I am not the most gracious gift receiver. Partially because I'm a narcissist, and partially because it does actually hurt me. I feel like you didn't even want to try, don't care, and just did it out of obligation. It's like a slap in the face. That's part of having gifts as your love language, people, and I've talked to other gift-people who are the same way. I'm trying to get better about being gracious about the ...

Deep Thoughts over Diet Coke & Macaroni

Image
Diet Coke, Annie's Mac & Cheese, and broccoli is probably my favorite lunch. And as I munched today, I was pondering something that's been on my mind for a while now, something I've been thinking about over Diet Coke and Mac & Cheese. From 1 Corinthians 9 But we did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ. I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. Do you know why I have been thinking about this? Because, not to sound rude, but I think we generally suck at this as the Church. I mean, some people get it right and I'm not trying to be mean or unhelpful. It's just lately, I've been personally dealing with this problem a lot, and seeing it a lot, and hearing sermons on it a lot, and all that. So I get it, that means I'm to be more convicted of it than any of you reading this. Thi...
