So this is fun

Yes, we are sick again . I don't know how this is even possible. Cold. Respiratory infection. Stomach bug. There has to be an end in sight. It has to stop at some point, right? Well, I could go on and on about how frustrated I am with my current state of health, but that's really not very exciting. I will tell you this started on Sunday, when we were watching Abram and Jane and Abram suddenly looked at us and went, "My tummy hurts." All I could think was, "Me, too, kiddo." Our front hall and new house has now officially been broken in with some vomit in the front hall. That kid has aim, I tell you. Not a splash landed on the carpet. All on the hardwood floor, some on a rug (which I could easily wash). Not bad, right? Aunt Chrissy was not far behind, but I was equipped with a bucket, so the house was safe. So, I will spare you with the rest of the details and leave you with some adorableness from our time with them. Abram loves Uncle Robert's tablet. He...

Here we are!

+ We have moved! We are so thankful everyday that we found a home we truly love. We wake up everyday thinking, "We really get to live here?" + Otis has done well adjusting. I need to write a post about how funny he has been lately. He is definitely the king of our castle (read: spoiled-rotten-dog). +I have been really sick . Not like, the sniffles sick. Not like, just this week sick. Like, on steroids to BREATHE sick. I have a follow-up appointment today and I'm hoping for good news. Being sick has made me so tired. My energy level is at about 50%, all the time. This has led me to understand several new things, including that dust on the floor won't offend anyone, it's ok not to shower everyday, we can just leave the clean laundry in the basket and grab it as we need it, and there is nothing like watching TV for hours on end when you feel terrible. Take that, Type A Me. +Art! I just finished reading "The Butterfly Mosque" and "The Historian". I...

Our networked lives

People ask me still how I feel about moving back to Indianapolis. UM... amazing?!?! I joke with a friend of mine that the work world of our husbands is beyond incestuous. They have worked with everyone in their field at some company at some point in time (it seems). There isn't a competitor or vendor they work with that they don't know someone on the team from personal experience and have worked with forever. And they constantly all switch and cross between companies and specialties. That is what my whole life is like here, which is amazing, because I've only lived in Indianapolis since February of 2008. Which leads us to the incestuous furniture swap. The perfect example of our life here. Our old washer and dryer were a gift from the above mentioned friends, one of whom used to be Robert's roommate. When we bought our house and got new ones, we "payed it forward" by giving them to Robert's sister and her husband (an old friend of mine). Their old washer a...

The gift

I have a friend who mentioned in her blog once her inability to give gifts (http://www.whileyouwerenapping.com/2011/12/some-things-ive-been-thinking-about.html). It's a quite funny and enlightening to someone like me, a gift-giver and someone who speaks that love language. Example? I drew my sister-in-law's name for our gift exchange this year, and she wanted a sweater. The sweater I gave her was almost identical to the one she was wearing that day (the gift receipt was included, just in case). Spot on. She was impressed. [This being said, I am not the most gracious gift receiver. Partially because I'm a narcissist, and partially because it does actually hurt me. I feel like you didn't even want to try, don't care, and just did it out of obligation. It's like a slap in the face. That's part of having gifts as your love language, people, and I've talked to other gift-people who are the same way. I'm trying to get better about being gracious about the ...

Happy New Year

Were you hoping, dear readers, that my 2011 would end dull? Of course, it didn't. Robert and I went on a vacation with my family to southern California to celebrate Christmas. As we wrapped up from our move and watched the dust settled, I became very, very excited at the idea of a vacation. I also had a... feeling. Like, something is about to happen. We were on our way home from running errands the day we were supposed to leave for CA and I got a phone call from the airline. What they told me boiled down to this: either get to the airport in an hour and a half and get on an earlier flight, or you aren't making it to CA today, or possibly tomorrow. We live about 45 minutes away from the airport. We had not a single bag packed. We were not even at our house . As we packed in a frenzy and made a desperate call to Robert's dad to drive us like a madman to the airport, all I could think was, "Of course. Never a dull moment, right?" The good news is that we made it sa...

Moving Week (again? really?)

Image
We are moving this week. We have started packing. We are both working this week. Desperate times, people. Call in the re-enforcements. You already know I live on coffee and Diet Coke. But now, now we breakout the big guns. Are you ready for this? I am.

Those who have walked in darkness

I do not know how to blog about this week. There are so many back stories that I cannot explain. So many people who have been in my life for a very long time, in places very far away, that fell on my doorstep this week. To keep a long story short, an old family friend's mother was put into hospice over the weekend. My mother drove down with her to Cincinnati this week, to spend time with them, and to help driving. At the same time, an old family friend's son and his wife (who is my sister's age, who we grew-up with) had their first baby on Saturday night in Ft. Wayne. It did not go well, and the baby (and the whole family), came to the NICU at Riley in Indianapolis. And this is how, on Monday night, I found myself, with my mother and sister, in the NICU lobby at Riley with people I had not seen in years, who are not from Indianapolis, who I never in a million years thought I'd be seeing here under this circumstance. Their story is not mine to tell. I will not try to beg...
